What Happens During a Complimentary Tryout?
Your first visit to The Music Studio

Walking into a music studio for the first time can feel exciting—but it can also be a little intimidating. Many parents wonder what to expect, whether their child will feel comfortable, or even if they're "musical enough" to begin.

However, a complimentary tryout isn't a test, an audition, or an evaluation you'll either pass or fail.
It's simply an opportunity for your family to experience The Music Studio Way.

First Things First…
One of the biggest misconceptions about music lessons is that children need to prove they're talented before they begin.
At The Music Studio, we believe the opposite.

Children come to us to develop musical ability, not to demonstrate that they already have it.

Whether your child has never touched a piano or already has several years of experience, the purpose of the tryout is to discover where they are today so we can determine the best path forward.
What Your Child Will Experience
Unlike many introductory lessons where a teacher spends most of the time talking, our tryouts are designed to help students experience what an actual lesson feels like.

Depending on your child's age and instrument, they may:
  • Sit at the piano and begin making music immediately.
  • Play rhythm games and musical activities.
  • Learn how our unique small-group format works.
  • Meet one of our teachers.
  • Explore the instrument in a relaxed environment.
  • Experience the pace and energy of a real lesson.

Our goal isn't to see how much your child already knows.
Our goal is to help them leave excited about learning more.
What Parents Can Expect
While your child enjoys the lesson, you'll have the opportunity to observe how we teach.

Many parents immediately notice something different.

Instead of students sitting quietly waiting for their turn, you'll often see children actively engaged throughout the lesson. Teachers circulate continuously, giving each student individualized instruction while allowing them to keep making progress independently.

This approach helps students stay focused, build confidence, and become independent musicians from the very beginning.
We Aren't Looking for Perfection
One of the questions we hear most often is:
"What if my child is shy?"
Or...
"What if they don't know anything about music?"

That's perfectly okay. Every student walks through our doors with different experiences, personalities, and learning styles.

Some children jump right in.
Others take a few minutes to warm up.
Both are completely normal.

Our teachers are experienced at meeting students where they are and helping them feel comfortable.
This Is Also Your Opportunity
The tryout isn't only for your child.
It's also for you.

You'll have the chance to:
  • Meet the teacher.
  • Tour the studio.
  • Learn how lessons are structured.
  • Ask questions about scheduling, curriculum, and tuition.
  • Decide whether our teaching philosophy feels like the right fit for your family.

Choosing a music teacher is an important decision, and we believe you should feel confident before enrolling.

Why Families Are Often Surprised
Many parents tell us they expected a traditional private lesson.

Instead, they're surprised to discover an environment filled with energy, encouragement, and students actively learning throughout the class.

They often leave saying things like,
"I've never seen a music lesson taught like this before."

That's exactly what we hope you'll experience.

Our teaching philosophy has been developed over decades of working with students of all ages, with one goal in mind:
Helping children become confident, independent musicians who truly understand the language of music.
