There's nothing wrong with that.
In fact, one of the wonderful things about music is that there are so many ways to express yourself.

Our goal is to help children become musicians.

Why We Recommend Piano First
Although we teach many instruments, we often recommend beginning with piano.

Why?

Because the piano gives students one of the strongest musical foundations possible.
Students learn to:

• Read music.
• Understand rhythm.
• Develop listening skills.
• Build coordination between both hands.
• Recognize patterns.
• Understand melody and harmony.

​These skills transfer beautifully to nearly every other instrument.
For many children, piano becomes the foundation that makes learning future instruments easier and more enjoyable.

​Sometimes "I Don't Like Piano" Means Something Else
Children don't always have the words to explain what they're feeling.

When a child says,
"I don't like piano anymore."
they may actually mean:

• "This piece is hard."
• "I'm afraid of making mistakes."
• "I don't feel successful."
• "I'm frustrated."
• "I'm tired after school."
• "I'd rather be outside today."

Those are very different conversations.

That's why we encourage parents not to panic after one difficult week.

Instead, be curious.
Ask questions.
Talk with your child's teacher.

Sometimes a Different Instrument Is the Right Answer

Sometimes that means continuing with piano.
Sometimes it means exploring guitar, violin, drums, voice, or another instrument.

Give It Time
Learning an instrument is much like learning to read or ride a bicycle.

The first few weeks are filled with new routines and unfamiliar skills.

​That's why we encourage families to give the learning process time before deciding whether an instrument is truly the right fit.

Yes, we often recommend piano as a wonderful first instrument because it builds such a strong musical foundation.

But our loyalty isn't to the piano.
