​Beginner Harp Exploration for Adults is a small-group, six-week harp class for adults (18+) at The Music Studio in Stafford, Virginia. This Saturday program is designed for adults who are curious about the harp and want a relaxed, joyful way to begin — even with no prior music experience.
The harp is one of the most beautiful instruments we offer, and one of the most surprising. Beginners often make beautiful music from the very first session, even with simple techniques.

This class is perfect for:

• Adults who are brand new to music
• Adults returning after prior piano or music lessons
• Students continuing from a previous harp exploration session

What Makes Beginner Harp Exploration Different
Beginner Harp Explorers is intentionally designed to be low-pressure, accessible, and rewarding.

• No harp needed at home — full-sized lever harps are provided in the studio
• No required practice outside of class
• All learning happens during session time
• Very small group (just 3 students)
• Calm, supportive environment — no auditions, no performance pressure

Students learn real music skills while enjoying the rich, elegant sound of the harp right away.

How the Class Works
Each weekly session focuses on:

• Basic harp technique and posture
• Reading music from the very beginning (not copying or memorizing)
• Ensemble playing and listening skills
• Developing confidence and musical independence

Our approach emphasizes reading and understanding music, so students are not dependent on imitation or rote learning. This builds confidence and allows students to continue learning long after the class ends.

Performance Experience (Optional & Informal)
We finish the six-week session with a short, informal harp performance.
This is designed to be:

• Low-stress
• Encouraging
• A fun goal to work toward

It’s a chance to share what you’ve learned — not a recital or competition.

Inclement Weather & Absences. There’s no risk of losing a class:

• Weather or emergency closures will be communicated promptly
• Make-up options will be scheduled as needed

Harp Lessons at The Music Studio (All Ages)

In addition to Beginner Harp Explorers for adults, The Music Studio offers harp lessons for beginners of all ages, including children and teens.
Students learn on full-sized lever harps provided in the studio, so no instrument purchase is required to begin. From the very first lesson, students are making real music and developing strong reading skills.

Meet Our Harp Instructor – Brynn Olden

We’re thrilled to welcome Brynn Olden, harp instructor at The Music Studio in Stafford. Brynn holds a degree in Harp Performance from Shenandoah Conservatory and is a former student of The Music Studio, having studied under longtime harp teacher David Crookston. She brings both high-level training and a deep personal connection to our program. Brynn is passionate about helping students discover the beauty of the harp and guiding beginners through a positive, encouraging first experience.

Do you offer harp lessons for children and teens?Yes. In addition to our adult programs, we offer Beginner Harp Explorers for ages 7–17, a six-week introductory harp experience designed especially for beginners. This program follows the same reading-based, confidence-building approach as our adult class, allowing students to explore the harp in a supportive, low-pressure setting while learning real music skills from the very beginning. We also offer ongoing harp lessons for students who wish to continue after the exploration session.
How quickly can beginners learn harp?
Very quickly. The harp is one of the most rewarding instruments for beginners. Many students are making recognizable, beautiful music in their very first lesson.

Is there a lot of practice required at home?
No. Especially in our Beginner Harp Explorers program, learning happens during the lesson, and there is no pressure to practice or perform outside of class.

Do students learn to read music?
